Fern Hill Retreat is located on a five-acre lot in the Southern Wisconsin countryside near New Glarus Woods State Park. The retreat has been run exclusively for quilters over the past twelve years, and even though it is under new management starting in 2015, it still caters to the needs of quilters in terms of the amenities provided and the quiet, relaxing atmosphere.
Fern Hill’s owner, Chris Paris, is well-versed in the quilting arts. A long-time quilter, she also works at Quilter’s Compass, a local quilt shop, arranging the fabrics and retail store space to provide an open, relaxing, and inspiring shopping experience. She is focused on providing the best possible experience for Fern Hill guests whether you are staying for two days or two weeks.
Fern Hill has always been a smoke-free and pet-free facility for the comfort of our guests. Central air conditioning keeps the entire facility comfortable in the summer months.
The house has three bedrooms that accommodate up to eight guests on seven twin and one full size bed. There are two full bathrooms upstairs and a half bathroom downstairs just off the project room.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need, including a full-size stove, refrigerator, microwave, and plenty of basic cooking utensils.
The dining room and table can comfortably seat eight people, and the deck off the back of the house provides a wonderful place to enjoy the countryside.
The living room has a TV, DVD player, and plenty of comfortable seating. A selection of parlor games is also provided.
The downstairs workroom can easily seat eight quilters at roomy work tables with comfortable task chairs. There is plenty of overhead, task, and window lighting to provide a bright and cheerful work environment.
Two irons and four ironing boards, a large table to pin quilts, extra work tables, several design walls, a spacious cutting table, a quilt frame, and a quilt pattern library are all available for your use. Just bring your sewing machine and projects; everything else is provided!
